Super Quick Post - my kids are so darn CUTE!

Monday, March 26, 2012

I'm gonna make this quick...

Last night I overheard Joseph singing "somewhere over the rainbow" when he should have been in bed. He doesn't know all the words so he kept on repeating "somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue.... once in a lullaby!"

Tonight when we came home from Costco, Rosie was standing by the door, taking her sweet time coming inside. I opened the door and said "come on in Rosie!" She then said "oh I was just wishing on a star and I'm not finished yet."

Michael has learned to pull himself to standing and today he took a step while holding onto the couch!! I wonder if he'll walk sooner than the other two. He also learned to clap his hands, which is so adorable!

What a Punk!

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Tonight Rosie comes downstairs, two hours past her bedtime with a book in hand.

Rosie: "Daddy please read this book to me."
Dave: "No honey, it's bedtime."

As per her usual strategy, after getting a "no" from one parent, she moves onto the next.

Rosie: "Mommy, what does this word say?"
Me: "Which word?"
Rosie: "All of them."

What a punk!

No more Thumbs!

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

I'm sure you've noticed from my last post that the kids have been pretty sick this year. We've had excessive vomiting (Rosie) every 15-20 minutes and she SCREAMED before and after every time, we've had ear infections (Joseph and Rosie), major skin rash (Rosie), fever (Michael, Rosie, Joseph), vomiting (Michael), coughing (Rosie and Michael), hallucinations with high fever (everyone but Dave), teething (Michael), and diarrhea (Joseph). We've been to the doctors at least 8 times this winter, and into the ER twice.

That's what happens when you send you kid to germ central aka school, and when your other kid sucks his thumb (after touching everything). Although we can't keep Rosie away from school, we CAN do something about the thumb sucking. I bought Joseph some Toy Story bandages and put them on his thumbs. He hasn't tried to suck his thumb in 24 hours! We decided that he'll get a reward if he goes thumb free for an entire week. Wonder which of the 2 options he'll choose?

Spring is in the air!

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Normally I hate winter. Seriously, I'm not into skiing, skating, hockey, being cold... I just hate it. However, this winter has been AWESOME! I don't think it was colder that -15 C and that lasted maybe a day. It hardly even snowed this year, and today the temperature is 22 C!! It would be amazing if every winter could be like this. I hope I'm not jinxing this wonderful weather.

Any way, March break was last week and it was very relaxing. It's so nice to have Rosie home from school and have Dave take time off seminary. There were days where we'd all sleep in until 9 and stay in our pajamas until lunch time. March break, unlike other holidays, was actually a break!

Here's a little update on the kids.

Rosie
She's been so curious about everything. She's been super chatty and is constantly asking questions. One of her recent questions was "Mommy, how does the Daddy put the baby seed into a mommy's tummy? How does it get in there?" I told her we'd talk about it when she was older. The she said "why when I'm older?" Like I said, she asks a lot of questions. She LOVES wearing dresses and insists that she only looks beautiful when she's in a dress. We recently bought her the flower girl dress she'll be wearing to April's wedding and she feels like a princess in it. She twirls around and dances in it with the biggest smile on her face. It's adorable, really! Another funny thing she recently said was "Daddy, you're a crazy daddy and I am a beautiful woman." She also loves saying "no way Dad-A, no way Mom-A, no way, Jose-A, no way Mike-A." Rosie really wants a baby sister and talks about her all the time. She tells me that her baby sister will have hazel eyes and light brown/blonde hair. She even drew a picture of her baby sister the other day. We'll have to wait and see if she's right.

Joseph
Joseph is learning to pronounce words really clearly and is expressing himself more and more. He has such a cute sounding voice! His favorite movie is Toy Story and he's constantly walking around with an arm full (or backpack full, or rain boot full) of Toy Story figurines and saying "to infinity and beyond... Buzz Light Year to the rescue.... there's a snake in my boot.... we're eternally grateful." Joseph absolutely adores Michael and loves to hold his hand. I think sometimes Michael gets annoyed with Joseph's constant hand holding, but I think it's adorable. Joseph loves being read to. Right now his favorite books are Green Eggs and Ham, Are you my Mother, and The Best Nest. He loves helping out in the kitchen ( I hope that lasts forever haa haa). He's always so excited to help load and unload the dishwasher and to put the soap in the dishwasher and push the start button. He also enjoys helping me make pesto. Joseph loves getting snuggles especially before bedtime. He transforms from a real boys boy, into a teddy bear when I lay down beside him before bed and sing him a song. Again, I hope that lasts forever.

Michael
So many things are going on in Michael's life. He's at the age where he's learning to do new things all the time. He can army crawl, sit on his own, and he even managed to crawl up a few stairs the other day. Last week I discovered a little blister on the toe he uses to push off with when he army crawls. He learned to pull himself to standing while holding on to some furniture, which he was very happy and excited about. He can also say "I did it" when we hold his hands and pull him to standing. He's learning about faces, and when asked, can point to a nose, mouth, and eyes. He was sick for 2 weeks recently which was really hard on the family. He spent those 2 weeks in my arms and wanted to breastfeed A LOT! Last week I took him to the doctor for his immunizations and he was soooooo good! He didn't fuss at all when the doctor was checking his eyes, ears, and listening to his heart. And, he didn't flinch, jump, whimper, or cry when he got his immunization! He's one tough cookie that's for sure. At the moment, he's teething (poor little guy) and going through a bit of separation anxiety, but can you blame him? Dave and I are pretty awesome, I bet most people cry when we leave the room haa haa. He still has blue eyes, I think they're here to stay :)

Well, that's a little update! I think I'm going to head out and enjoy the sunshine.

When I Grow Up...

Monday, February 6, 2012

A had a little conversation with Rosie today.

Rosie - "I'm going to be a mommy when I grow up and you'll be a grandma."
Me - "How many kids are you going to have?"
Rosie - "Maybe five. I'm going to buy a car with enough seats for five kids."
Me - "What are you going to name them?"
Rosie - "A girl named Seelissa and another girl named Kenina, and Anakita for the last girl."
Me- "and what about the boys?"
Rosie - "Snonot and Cahnye."

She certainly like original names. She named one of her Barbies "Aka". We'll see what she REALLY names her babies when the time comes :)

In other news, Dave promised to let me name the next baby. I'm not currently pregnant, but I'm excited to have full license to name baby #4 what ever I want :) This will be fun!

Modest is Hottest!

Sunday, January 22, 2012

I've been meaning to write about this a long time ago but just keep on forgetting. A while back when Rosie was 2 or 3 years old, she had a dress that was sleeveless. I bought her a cute sweater to go over it so that she could be modest, yes, even at the age of 2. At first, Rosie wanted to take the sweater off. In fact, it was a bit of a struggle to get her to wear it. After explaining to her that it is important to dress modestly to show respect for our bodies, respect for those around us, and most importantly to show respect for God, she's never fought me when it comes to modesty. As a matter of fact, she's obsessed with modesty now. Here's a few examples...

Sometimes she'll wander into the bathroom while Dave or I are in the shower. We'll poke our head out from the curtain to see who the intruder is. The second Rosie gets a glimpse of a bare shoulder she exclaims "Hey, you're not modest!"

Whenever baby Michael is in just a diaper, weather it be because he's about to eat a messy meal, or if he's about to be changed into something new, Rosie will always point out how immodest he is.

One day we were at the YMCA and a girl was wearing a tube top sun dress. Rosie ran over to me and said "Mommy she doesn't have sleeves on her dress!"

She has also taken her Barbies and put Ken's suit jacket over their outfits to make them more modest.

When we were shopping for her aunts wedding gown, Rosie got very upset and let everyone know that she did NOT like the strapless dress. When April put on a dress with sleeves, Rosie started to jump up and down and say "I love it! It's so modest!"

My favorite example of how much Rosie loves modestly is when she was coloring a picture of the Princess and the Frog. If you've seen that movie, or just seen posters or toys, you'd know that the princess is in a strapless dress. Rosie decided to fix it. She took her crayons and drew sleeves on the dress! What a cleaver girl!!

I've explained to her that sometimes people don't dress modestly because they don't know about Heavenly Father and they don't know that it is important to be modest. Some people don't go to church and learn about modesty and maybe their parents haven't talked about modesty to them. The other reason is, some people don't care. However, Heavenly Father cares and is sad when we don't respect our bodies and treat our bodies like temples. We've also discussed with her that there are other things to worry about besides just modesty. We need to be kind to others, use good manners, and share, among other things.

I'm so very glad that I taught her the principle of modesty at such a young age and ever more thankful that she understands. I often see parents dressing their kids in all kinds of immodest clothing because they think it doesn't matter when they are young and that it's cute. I'v never had that philosophy. When are they suddenly old enough to have to dress modestly? When they hit puberty? When they're 18? When they're about to be sealed in the temple? How do you suddenly shift their focus to modesty? I believe that we should dress modestly ALWAYS.

Hopefully Rosie will always understand the importance of modesty and, as she gets older, she'll understand even more why. She'll learn that it helps others around us have clean thoughts. She'll learn that they way we dress can dictate how we behave. If we're in pjs we'll want to lounge around or sleep. If we're in a soccer outfit we might feel like running around. If we're in formal attire, we're more apt to sit proper and act proper. If we're in a sexy outfit we'll more likely draw the wrong kind of attention, plus we're more likely to act sexy and flirtatious, which leads to immorality and other sin. I want her to understand her infinite worth in God's eyes and in our eyes. I want her to understand that Heavenly Father loves her so much and that she doesn't need to conform to the world's standard or dress. She needs to seek first the approval of God as he knows what will make us the happiest. I pray that her friends will be good influences on her and that she in turn, will be good influences on them. I want her to always know she is a daughter of God and that modest truly is hottest!

Amazing Day!

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Yesterday was great! Lately Michael hasn't been the best napper, and Joseph is going through the usual terrible twos, and Rosie's been sick, so you can see how not-fun it's been around here. Then a miracle happened. They ALL took a NAP at THE SAME TIME!!!!! It gave me some much needed peace and quiet, something I haven't had in a while. Thank you kids!

On another note, last night Dave and I cleaned up the toy room. Most days there's a million toys scattered all over the floor and when night time comes, I'm too exhausted to do anything about it, so it stays. Any way, this morning it was clean! Joseph came down to the playroom, and in a very concerned voice said "there's no more toys!". Haa haa I had to show him that he still had toys, they were just in their toy buckets.

Well, Michael just woke up from him cat nap.... I'm off!

We have a 4 year old!

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Today our dear daughter turns 4!!!! We celebrated with an amazing party put on by my Mom. It was a Princess Tea Party, and it was sooooo cute! All the guests got dressed up in a princess dress. They started with a craft where they decorated a picture frame
with glittery stickers. The frame had a certificate of completion of Princess Level 1 and there was a place on the top of the frame to hold their tiara. After, they danced the princess freeze dance, and got lip gloss and shimmer dust when they froze. They also learned how to be a real prin
cess by learning how to sing and stay away from poison apples. All the guests had a chance to meet the Grand Duke and try on Cinderella's glass slipper. They also took a
ride in Cinderella's carriage and posed for some pictures. Rosie loved her little mermaid cake too!! It was a blast and Rosie got some awesome gifts (lucky girl).

Happy Birthday Princess Rosie!! Mommy and Daddy love you soooooo much!

Post From Dave

Cute story. So today Whitney brings cupcakes to seminary to celebrate Nicole's birthday. Having some extra, she offers to let me take the remaining three cupcakes home and gives me the big white cardboard box they came in. Since I never reject food, I gladly accept her offer.

So I get home with a bunch of stuff in my hands and Rosie is waiting for me at the door with the magic fairy wand she made with Elisabeth. So she's talking to me and says "daddy, I'm gonna wave my magic wand and make some cupcakes (she honestly had no idea what was in the box (nor do I think she noticed it - this cupcake idea was completely random)". I said "oh that's cute
honey". Then I remembered that I had the cupcakes. Perfect! So I said "Rosie, why don't you do your magic spell one more time and see if you can make cupcakes appear inside this box. So she sings "bibbity bobbity boo!" and touches the box with her wand. I open the box, to her absolute amazement, revealing the three cupcakes.

You should have seen the look on her face! At first she was awestruck, but soon started shaking out of pure excitement. Not sure what she's going to try to make next with her magic wand, but hopefully we'll have some of whatever it is in stock!

That Takes Courage

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Last week was a busy week for all of us. Dave went to Missouri and Texas for quilt market which left me home alone with the kids. That same week Rose had picture day, her first ever class trip to a pumpkin farm, Halloween Day at school, and we all had a Halloween Trunk or Treat Party at the church. Oh and the best part, Rose won the courage award at her school's character assembly!! I went to the school to watch her receive her award. Her teacher said "at first she wouldn't say much to me and got upset a few times but now she's brave and talks and answers questions. That takes courage!" It was so adorable watching her go up and get her certificate.

At the Halloween party everyone loved mine and Michael's costume. Too bad they didn't give out awards because everyone said we would have won. Rose was too scared of some of the other costumes (I don't blame her) and she cried on my Mom's lap until she fell asleep. Joseph wasn't really into the whole Halloween thing. He wore a Tigger costume, but never wanted to wear the headpiece. Any way.... here's some pictures from last week...Me Ka Aloha

My baby is turning 4 soon and you know what that means.... PARTY TIME! Of course I've been planning her birthday for a year now and I already have her loot-bag stuff and guest list figured out. Rosie likes to plan ahead too. She's had her wish list all figured out since the summer. Here it is...
1. Pink or purple yoga mat

2. Jasmine Barbie

3. Pocahontas Barbie

4. John Smith (Barbie?)

5. Warm slippers that look like ballet slippers

6. Barbie car

7. New Clothes

8. Mega Crayola crayon pack (the one with like 100 colors)

I'm sure there's a few more things, but I can't remember right now. I'm sure she'll remind me as the time gets closer. I can't wait to post pictures of her big day :)

Lovely Afternoon

Sunday, October 2, 2011

Every now and then the kids do something so sweet a wonderful that it makes me want to have 20 kids. I had one of those moments a few days ago. I put Michael in his baby swing and he soon fell asleep. I turned off the TV and Rosie and Joseph snuggled up to me and we all fell asleep. It was so cute how they all snuggled up and didn't fuss or whine. I love it when I have days like this :)

First Day of School!

Sunday, September 18, 2011

The day before school started we took Rosie out for ice cream (just Dave and I) to let her know how special she is too us, how much we love her, and how proud and happy we are that she will be going to school. Dave also gave her a blessing, which he will do each year before school starts, and blessed her that she would learn a lot and love school and learn independence from myself and Dave. I also read her a book called "The Kissing Hand" which is about a raccoon going to school for the first time. The book is so cute and made me cry! I thought about Rosie being there without Dave or I and I worried that she would miss us. I know I sure missed her!

Well.... Rosie is now a "big girl" and already gone to two days of school. She was very excited when she saw her classroom for the first time and she didn't cry at all when we dropped her off. She stood in line with all her classmates and followed her teacher into the school. She told me that she really likes school and she loved ridding the tricycle in the play area. She was a little upset at school when they had to move away from the art portion of class, which I actually think is a positive thing. I'm glad she can focus on her task and that she's excited about art and completing her project to completion. She also got upset when she had to leave her placemat in the classroom. Rosie and I picked out a cute picture and wrote her name on it (had it laminated) and her placemat is very special to her. I guess she didn't understand that her placemat would be there everyday when she came to school. Any way, it doesn't matter because I asked her teacher if she could take it home with her every day. Here's a picture of my darling Rosie on her first day of school, with the hairband that I made her to match her uniform. (and a few cute pictures of Joseph and Michael)

My Kids Said....

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Lately the kids have been saying some pretty funny stuff (mostly Rosie). Before I forget, here's what they've been saying.

Rosie (as she watches Joseph get his diaper changed) "Eeewww that's be-gusting Joseph. I can't get married to you if you have a poo poo bum. I hate that."

Rosie (after coming home from a wedding) "I need to take off these fashion clothes and put on play clothes."

Rosie (someone was at the door) "Someone is here. I think it's Heavenly Father."

Joseph (after getting in trouble for opening my door while Michael was sleeping and pushing the siren on his firetruck, waking Michael.) "I do nothing Mommy, I do nothing." (obviously trying not to be sent to time out)
Joseph eating his favorite food, rice cakes.
Snow White and Joseph (with his baby) watching a show in my room.

First Video

Thursday, May 19, 2011

I decided to upload all our funny family videos on youtube as a way to store them, and as a way to share with those who might be interested. Who knows, maybe I'll have a "Charlie Bit My Finger" moment. Here's the first video (taken tonight actually). I swear it was A LOT louder in real life. Enjoy!

One Month to Go!!

Saturday, April 30, 2011

There's about one month left in this pregnancy... WOO HOO!!! Despite my record breaking weight gain, it hasn't been too bad... oh and despite my puking and fatigue (who am I kidding, pregnancy sucks). I am so glad this is almost over and in a few weeks I'll be holding a brand new, beautiful baby (boy? girl?) in my arms. I'm so excited.

Speaking of babies, my cousin Emily just had a baby girl, last night actually! I haven't seen pictures yet, but she's 7 pounds 15 ounces and they named her Lauren. Congrats Emily and family!!

Well, this is just a short blog post to say that baby number 3 will be here soon! Oh and to tell you the funny thing Rosie said the other day. Rosie - "Mommy, I want to get married." Me - "ok you can when you're bigger." Rosie (stands on tiptoe) - "I'm bigger now, I'm ready!" Later on that day she looked at Joseph and said "Joseph, you're face is all messy. Nobody will marry you." Haa haa, that girl is obsessed with the idea of marriage. I think she just wants a fancy dress and flowers.

My next blog post will most likely be when the new baby arrives (unless I find the time to post some long awaited pictures).

Happy 3rd Birthday Rosie! Rosie's Birth Story

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Happy Birthday Rosie!! Today is Rosie's 3rd birthday and to celebrate, we're going to see Tangled!! It's the new Disney movie about Rapunzel and it came out today, in 3D. Luckily, Rosie likes wearing "sunglasses" so it'll be easy getting her to wear them during the movie. I know she'll like it because she's been watching all the "Rosie's Tea Party" Youtube videos and Rapunzel is her favorite.

Any way... here's Rosie's birth story....

About a week after Rosie was born, I asked Dave to help me type out her birth story. I never really had time to type it out myself because Rosie was always nursing so I dictated, and Dave typed. Now looking back at the Word document, it's obvious that Dave changed my wording quite a bit. Oh well, it's still an accurate description. The only problem is that we never finished writing it. Dave had his sister over when we were documenting, and he wanted to hang out with her, so he promised me that he'd help me write it out later. That never happened. I really hope I can finish it with all the details I wanted to write 3 years ago. Here it is...

On November 23rd around 2 am in the morning I started to feel some mild contractions and I knew that I was going to go into labour soon. I took a Tylenol and some Gravol and slept through most of it until 5 am, when the contractions got so strong that I couldn’t sleep anymore. Around 6 am I woke up David to tell him that I was in labour. He immediately got up and started timing them. The contractions were still pretty sporadic at first, so we knew we had some time before the baby would come. We ate breakfast, cleaned up, and got everything ready to go to the hospital. Most importantly I put some makeup on so that I would look half decent when the baby came out! Around 9am we decided to call our midwife, Rhea, to tell her what was happening. She said it sounded like things could be happening, but there was a chance that the contractions could stop during the day (as hormone levels are lower in daytime) and that it might be a false alarm. She told me to go for a walk, have lunch and not worry about it too much, but to call her if the contractions became stronger and more regular. Only ten minutes later the contractions went from annoying and slightly uncomfortable to moaning and groaning and intense pain. All I wanted to do was lie in bed, because every time I sat up or walked around the contractions felt much worse. David described the sounds I was making as the “cry of a banshee”! I called the midwife back at noon because I knew that this was the real deal and that baby was coming whether we liked it or not. She talked to me while I was having a contraction, deemed that this was in fact true labour, and said that she would be there in half an hour. She came over at 12:30 pm, checked me, and declared that I was in labour, vowing not to go anywhere until I had the baby. She and Dave helped me labour in different positions, including sitting on the exercise ball, standing with my legs apart leaning on Dave or the bathroom counters, sitting on the toilet, and walking around the apartment. While I was sitting on the exercise ball, I felt a huge gush of liquid leave me, which the midwife claimed to be my water breaking (this was around 2 pm). Suddenly the contractions became even stronger than before, and substantially more painful. Enough became enough and I decided that I was in enough pain to merit going to the hospital, as I knew that I could get an epidural there. David tried to talk me out of it as he promised my past self he would, by saying things like “millions of women have birthed without drugs”, to which I replied, “poor them!” He also said that my mom had done it five times without drugs, to which I snapped back, “well she’s an idiot!” Despite his noble effort, I wanted drugs and no one was going to stop me from getting them, even though he and Rhea both tried extremely diligently. We arrived at the hospital at about 4 pm and David dropped me off at the front entrance and I went up to the labour ward while he parked the car free of charge at the Gallentoft’s across the street. The people in the elevator were well aware of where I needed to go! At the hospital I was hooked up to an I.V and was told that I had to wait for the bag of fluid to enter into me almost completely before I could have to doctor give me an epidural. I had the feeling that the midwife was moving as slow as possible, hoping that I would give birth naturally before the epidural took place. However my temperature started to rise and so did the babies heart rate, so in light of these events, even Rhea thought the epidural would be effective at relaxing me, and thus cooling me down and slowing baby’s heart rate. - That's where it ended.... here's the rest...

So as stated earlier, we arrived at the hospital around 4 pm and hooked me up to an IV. One of the nurses came into the room and told us that they couldn't give me the epidural until they had a blood sample, and the blood sample they took hours earlier wouldn't do. The vile they took my blood in was expired. They would have to re-take it, and I would have to wait even longer for the epidural. Finally at 7 pm the anesthesiologist came in. They asked Dave to leave the room and come back in 15-20 minutes (I guess at Joseph Brant Hospital, only nurses and Dr can be in the room while they give an epidural). They had me lean forward over a pillow and the midwives held me still while the anesthesiologist disinfected my spine and gave me the needle. I must say, this is one of the creepiest things ever. Seriously, they sit you there while you're having unbearable contractions and stick a large needle into your spine to numb the pain. They also have to keep the IV going the entire time and keep the blood pressure cuff on, so they can test your blood pressure every few minutes. I also had to take some antibiotics and Tylenol because of my fever. Oh man, I'm getting the creeps just thinking about it. The good news is that the pain did in fact stop minutes after. I felt MUCH better and I could actually have a conversation with Dave. I decided to call my Mom because earlier that day she had left a message on our machine that sounded something like "You're not picking up the phone, you must be at the hospital woo-hoo!" So I called her around 8 pm and told her I was at the hospital and that I was going to have my baby. I started to tear up when I told her because I was starting to realize the reality of the situation and I was so happy and excited. I could tell in her voice that she too was starting to cry a little. I told her to stay by the phone because she'd be getting some good news soon. The midwives came into the room and told me that I should get some sleep while I could because pushing was going to be a lot of work. They put a couple of rolled up towels under me to keep me propped up on one side and dimmed the lights. Soon I was fast asleep and waiting for the baby's head to crown so I could push. During the time I was sleeping, Dave went home to get a few more things that we needed and to call his parents and let them know what was going on.

Around 10:30 pm the midwives asked me how I was feeling and asked if I was feeling any pressure. I told them that I couldn't feel anything. Lucia (my secondary midwife) check to see how dilated I was. She told me I was fully dilated and that I'd be meeting my baby soon. When she told me, I started to cry. I couldn't believe that in a little while I would finally be holding a precious baby in my arms. Rhea, Lucia, and Dianne (the student midwife) got everything ready to go and the next thing I knew, I was pushing. Dave and one of the midwives had to hold onto my legs to help me push. I laughed and said "Sorry, I only had time to shave one leg this morning!" Since I had the epidural and couldn't feel when contractions were coming, I had to look on the monitor and when the numbers went up, it meant I was having a contraction and that I needed to push. I'm sure Dave and I both thought that the baby would be out in a few minutes, but it took MUCH longer than that. The midwives told me to push my chin down and push my feet against their hands. I was also told hold my breath and to push as hard as I could. As the babies head began to crown Dave started to get excited. He and the midwives were all saying things like "You're doing great! You're so strong, keep going!". As I was pushing, I noticed Dave making a grossed out/concerned face. I said "Dave! Stop making those faces!!" He apologized, but kept on doing it (I don't think he realized he was making those faces, but I sure noticed). We were all watching the clock as I was pushing. Around 11:45 pm I realized that I wasn't going to have the baby until the 24th, oh well, no big deal, we like even numbers.

Well at midnight I started pushing harder and harder. I pushed and pushed and I could feel the babies head coming out slowly. I said to Dave "This hurts so much". The midwives call it the ring of fire (the area that's being stretched, and most women rip) and it really feels like it's on fire! Luckily for me, the midwives have a warn wash cloth ready to apply to the skin to sooth and prevent it from ripping, and it worked. Rhea asked Dave if he would like to catch the baby. Of course he wanted to, so he washed up and got ready. He tried to wear gloves but they didn't fit right. I kept on pushing and felt the head come out. The midwives said "time of birth 12:11 am" and then checked to see if the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. We were all clear so I pushed one last time and...

The next thing I knew Dave was placing the most beautiful baby on my chest!!! I immediately started sobbing tears of joy. I couldn't believe she was finally here and that Dave and I were parents. (I'm getting emotional just thinking about it). I asked Dave what "it" was and he said "ah, I think it's a girl, but I didn't get a very good look." So I did a quick check, and yes, we had a little girl! She was the most beautiful baby girl I had EVER seen in my life. I was in love the very second I saw her. I couldn't stop staring at her and feeling like the luckiest, happiest person in the world. Dave was by my side with tears in his eyes too. She was crying and she sounded like a little kitten. I can honestly say that this was the most amazing moment in my whole entire life. I was even happier knowing that I had been right all along, that I was indeed having a girl (we never found out before hand). She weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces, which is the perfect text-book weight according to my midwife.

I spent the next 24 hours trying to sleep, but mostly just staring in amazement and gratitude for having such a beautiful miracle in my arms. The next morning Dave came to the hospital and said "I think I like the name Rose, we should call her that." I was very happy he agreed with me because a few days ago, when I mentioned the name Rose, he wasn't too enthusiastic. We named her Rose, with the middle name Mary.

Rosie has been a blessing in our lives ever since. We love you very much! Happy birthday sweetie!!

Bye Ottawa...

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Last week we packed the kiddies in the car a drove the 5+ hours to Ottawa. The last time we were there was before Joseph was born, so we thought we would stop by for a quick fall visit. April lives in Ottawa as do some of our cousins so we had a lot to do. The drive there went pretty well. The kids napped most of the time, and when they were awake, we played Disney music to keep them entertained. Thank goodness Disney music is well written, otherwise I'd go CRAZY!

In Ottawa we stayed with April and Colin in their new apartment, which was pretty cool because it had 2 levels with the bedrooms upstairs. The kids slept great which was quite the surprise because last time we attempted an overnight stay (the cottage) they woke up crying several times and woke up half the family.

The first night there we just stayed in a had dinner with April and Colin. The second day we went to the mall and then joined Colin and his family for dinner at an Italian restaurant. It was a really nice evening.

On Friday night we went to a place called Cosmic Adventures. It reminded me of Chucky Cheese but much bigger and with less arcade games. It was fun, but WAY overpriced if you ask me. Luckily we had coupons and saved 50% because usually it was cost $14 for Rosie, $13 for Joseph, and $6 each for Dave and I!!! Holy expensive! I think its lame the adults had to pay to get it. Oh and you can not bring in any food because they want to keep the place nut free (more like they want to sell you their CRAZY overpriced food). I got a personal sized plate of nachos for $7 (well not really because we had coupons - I only paid $2) the nachos were old and stale tasting, with pizza sauce instead of salsa, and burnt cheese. At least the kids had fun.

One of Rosie's newest things is making sure that people have what belongs to them. She's always giving Joseph HIS sippy cup, and giving Dave and I our shoes. In Ottawa she insisted in giving April her cell phone and her work ID card. She also found Colin's cell phone, went up to him and said "here Ottawa, your phone." Haa haa she thought Colin's name was Ottawa! Too cute!

On the way home we stopped at Nana Eleanor's house and spent the day. We went to the park and visited a huge yard sale of a woman who had passed away. The woman was really into sewing and had tables and tables of fabric and other supplies. I took home 3 large bags of fabric, and 5 spools of quality thread for only $5!!! Nana took the kiddies to the Toy store and bought Rosie a Snow White and Cinderella figure (which she carries with her everywhere, even bed) and a red fire truck for Joseph. Rosie insists that Joseph take his fire truck with him everywhere. She thinks if he has his "red pire tuck" that he'll leave her princess toys alone. As we were leaving Nana's house Rosie said "bye Nana Alligator". Again, another name mix up, but a cute one! We taught her to say Eleanor, but she still slips up now and then and calls her Nana Alligator.

Some other things that the kids have been up to...
- Joseph finally learned to walk a week ago. He's too cute waddling around.
- Even since Joseph has weaned (at 13 months) he likes to suck his thumb and touch my belly button. It's pretty cute except for the time he pinched my belly button and made it bleed :(
- Rosie is in love with anything princess. She loves watching Max and Ruby because Ruby is always dressing up and doing girlie things. Her favorite movies are Snow White, Cinderella, and Mulan. Right now she won't watch Beauty and the Beast because "the Beast is scary!"
- Joseph likes to watch Elmo's World, Dora, and Max and Ruby.
- Rosie, my once excellent eater has become very picky. I'm going to have to find ways to sneak veggies in her diet. Joseph, on the other hand, is a bottomless pit and will eat almost anything.
- Rosie likes it when I sing "round and round the garden". She'll stick out her hand and say "do my garden"
