For the past year, life has been wonderful and hectic. We were incredibly blessed to have a new, beautiful baby join our family. Eden was born on her due date, May 27th 2013. Here's her story...
I woke up on Sunday morning, determined to go to church despite feeling enormous and uncomfortable. I knew the baby would be along in the next few days, and I wanted to squeeze in one last Sunday before life got busier. As I was in the shower that morning, I started to cough a lot, I felt something in the back of my throat, so I spit it out. Shockingly, it was a blood clot the size of a large walnut. I was a little worried, but felt fine otherwise, so I forgot about it and went to church. While at church I was feeling pretty crampy, but nothing alarming.
That night, while asleep, I felt sick like I was going to throw up. I went to the bathroom and coughed up yet another blood clot, then threw up. I was exhausted and went right back to bed. Minutes later I felt a sharp pain on my side. I would feel this from time to time during my pregnancy but it would usually subside after a minute or so. This time the pain wouldn't go away. I tried changing position, but again, the pain persisted. It got worse and I began to cry. I reached over and nudged Dave and with tears in my eyes I said "I need to go to the emergency room. Something is very wrong!" Dave jumped out of bed and dialed the midwife, explained the situation, and was told to get to the hospital right away. We called my mom and told her to come so she could look after the other kids. Dave quickly gave me a blessing and we were on our way.
I was in the car, scared and in pain, but what was worse is that I wasn't feeling the baby move. Was the baby ok? Was I ok?
We pulled up to the hospital and met the midwife. The first thing she did was check for the baby's heart beat. It was the best sound I had ever heard! That tiny baby was ok for now, and after a brief exam, so was I. We all gave a sigh of relief, but the midwife and doctor were both unsure what the blood clot was all about. They decided that I should stay in the hospital until the baby was born. The problem was, I wasn't really having any contractions. Perhaps a few mild ones, but nothing like real active labor. Around 7 am, Dave headed back home to switch cars with my Mom. We wanted her to have the car seats just in case she needed to take the kids anywhere, like say, the hospital to meet the new baby. While he was gone, the midwife (Anne) thought it would be best to break my water to get things moving along and I agreed. When Dave returned he held my hand and Anne broke my water. I was very emotional and started to cry. Having my water broken would mean that this was REALLY happening. A new miracle would be here soon, most likely my last miracle. I was happy, excited, and nervous as heck.
Soon the contractions started. They were very mild at the start, but made me feel very nauseous. For whatever reason, when I would lay down, they felt much stronger, and when I stood they went away, or became weaker. Hours went by, and no baby. Rosie had asked if she could be present when the baby came so around lunch time my Mom brought her to the hospital. They waited in the family room, luckily Rosie is a patient girl. The contractions began in intensify causing me to throw up a few times, but the contractions were far apart. The breaks in between seemed longer than my past pregnancies and would nod off to sleep during the breaks. It felt like I was going to be in labor for a long time. I was exhausted and feeling like I just wanted to have the baby already. I kept on thinking "this labor isn't as strong as I'm used to and these breaks are long. Am I ever going to have this baby?" I remember laying on my side, in pain and wondering when the baby would come. I was worried about Rosie and my Mom waiting for so long outside and feeling anxious. As I laid there I felt an overwhelming feeling that the baby was a girl. I felt a voice say to me "you're having a girl. She is precious to Heavenly Father and he's having a hard time saying goodbye and letting her go." This brought peace to me and I calmly laid on my right side and breathed through the contractions. Around 4:00 pm my other midwife, Rhea made it to the hospital. It was her day off, and she really wanted to be at the birth. She was in Toronto earlier that day and rushed over to be with me. As she was in the hallway with the other midwife filling out paperwork, I felt an enormous feeling of urgency. It was as if I went from slow contractions to BABY IS COMING NOW! I told Dave that I needed to push and he ran out to get Rhea and Anne. It felt like he had been gone for an eternity and for a split second, I thought I might be having the baby alone.
The midwives got their gloves on and got into position, as did Dave and I heard my Mom and Rosie enter the room and stand behind the curtain. After a few intense pushes the babies head was out! Rhea said "here she is!", which was funny since nobody actually knew yet if she was indeed a girl. Then, there she was!!! Dave was there to catch her, and quickly handed her to me. Tears filled my eyes as I held such a beautiful precious baby in my arms. Rosie and my Mom came into view. My Mom was also crying and Rosie had such a beautiful look on her face as if she was thinking "there it is!". We asked Rosie to come take a look at the baby and to tell us all what it was. She was so happy to announce that we had a GIRL! She had been praying for a sister and she got one. Was she ever excited. I felt like I was blessed with everything I had ever hoped for. A girl, two boys, and now another girl. She was beautiful! She was perfect! Love filled my heart the same way it did when each of my children were born. I couldn't be happier! We named her Eden Kelly, a name I had picked out long before I was even pregnant with her (I'll save the name story for another post.)
Take a look!

So Fresh and So Clean
Friday, April 26, 2013Today is Friday. Usually on Friday nights Dave and I watch a movie or have friends over, or something a little more exciting than our usual day to day stuff. Unfortunately for me, Dave is away tonight at a church activity and I'm home with the cuties. Around 8 pm I started to put them to bed, which went pretty smoothly considering the fact that I had to lure them away from the ipod. They were so awesome with teeth brushing and didn't put up their usual fuss. They listened nicely during prayers and stories. After I left the room I could hear them wishing upon the stars outside their windows. "I wish for a car and a dinosaur." Guess who said that? "Joseph, you're not supposed to tell anyone your wish. I'm going to make a wish, but I won't tell you." Now guess who said THAT?

Olive Garden is Amazing!
Friday, April 19, 2013Earlier this week we took Uncle Mike to the airport in Buffalo and of course, made the usual stop off to the Olive Garden. Usually when we do this, it's just Dave and I and we leave the kids with grandparents, but this time, we decided to let them join in on the fun. Rosie, who has the greatest memory ever, knew exactly where we were going even though she's only been there twice ever. "The restaurant with the grapes on the sign!" We went in and Rosie was beyond amazed at the restaurant experience. I guess I forgot that she hasn't been to many sit down restaurants in her life. We usually eat at Ikea, Costco, Wendy's... you know, all the classy places. The last sit down restaurant she went to was an all you can eat buffet, which so isn't the same. The first thing that amazed Rosie was the fact that the waitress would bring unlimited bread sticks. "I can eat 100 bread sticks and she'll keep bringing me some?!" I think if all she had were bread sticks, she would have been happy. The second thing that amazed Rosie was that she could have pasta made to order, meaning she could choose her shape of pasta and choose her sauce and toppings. She ordered shell pasta with alfredo sauce and a side of grapes. "This is so yummy Mommy! It's amazing!" The last thing Rosie loved was, well, let me just tell you what she said.
Rosie - "We left all our messy dishes"
Me - "That's ok, someone will come and clean it for us. That's why we love going to restaurants. You don't have to cook anything or clean up anything."
Rosie - "you mean they don't make you do any hard work? That's so great Mommy! We should always come to the garden restaurant!"
I think Rosie just found her new favorite place to eat!

New Cousin
Monday, March 18, 2013About 6 weeks ago the kids welcomed a new baby boy cousin into the family! Everything went well with the birth and baby and Mommy are doing well. Finally, last week, we took a little road trip to Ottawa (thank you portable DVD players) to meet the little guy. All the kids loved him, especially Rosie. She was so sad to leave him and cried for the the first 5 minutes of the ride home. Here's video of our pit stop at Wendy's which shows just how she misses him (she's trying not to cry).

Carrots?!
Monday, March 4, 2013Today at lunch, to my surprise, Michael willingly ate raw carrots, celery, cucumbers, radishes, and almonds.
A few moments later Rosie walked in the door with a very sad face. The first thing she said to me was "Mommy, why did you put carrots in my lunch?"
At least I have ONE good eater. *sigh

Food Choices
Thursday, January 17, 2013After some serious dinner time drama, I decided to have a talk with Rosie about healthy food choices. I asked her to name me a few things that would be "bad" food choices. She responded with "ice cream, gummy bears, and poop."
Good answer Rosie!!

The Kids Said...
Monday, December 10, 20121. Rosie - "Look how beautiful this is. When people come over and see my picture, they're going to be so surprised that they'll get the hiccups!"
Rosie (run into the other room in a panic) "I hate that mommy!"
Rosie - "Daddy, Mommy is the best at this game, but you're the best at trying."
6. Conversation I overheard between Rosie and Joseph
Roise- "Joseph, why are you so handsome?"
Joseph - "because I'm awesome!"
Me - "oh that's nice."
Joseph - "and you're awful."
Me - "Daddy's the best and I'm awful? That's not nice."
Joseph - "you're just jealous!"

Where the heck have I been?
Saturday, December 1, 2012I KNOW, it's been a while! I haven't been feeling well because....
I'm pregnant!!! That's right, you read that correctly. Baby #4 will be here around the same time that Joseph and Michael were born.
Morning sickness, I mean ALL DAY sickness has been at an all time high, and I'm just now starting to feel a tad bit better, thanks to diclectin. We aren't going to find out what we're having, as always, but my mom thinks it's a girl.
We'll see...

Gross!
Wednesday, October 3, 2012So I haven't been feeling to well today, and although my kids are cute as can be, they've also been as messy as can be.
1. Joseph peed all over a decorative pillow and on the carpet (I hate carpet soooo much!)
2. Michael filled his diaper full of stinkiness for the 2nd time today
3. Rosie took a huge dump and it stunk up the entire top floor (her name may be Rose, but she sure doesn't smell like one at the moment!)
4. Michael threw a toy into a toilet full off pee
5. Joseph took a huge dump and now the entire downstairs smells!
Seriously kids, I'm about to PUKE!! I think it's an early bedtime for all of us! I love them but today I just can't handle all the smells.

Michael's new favorite word
Monday, September 24, 2012I don't know what it is with my boys, but when they're babies, they love saying "dada". It's crazy really. We have a video somewhere of Joseph saying "dada dada dada dada dada dada" over and over again! Michael refers to everything as "dada". Well, today Micheal made a smart choice. He's been walking around for the last 10 minutes saying nothing but "mama"! I love hearing him talk!

Look what I Made!
Saturday, September 22, 2012Here's a quick easy project I made using 1/2 a tea towel and a fat quarter. Unfortunately Rosie didn't get to keep it because it was a gift. Don't worry Rosie, you'll get your own soon :) I'm teaching a class in Relief Society on how to make this. It's going to be great, and I even got one of our suppliers to donate 50 fat quarters for the occasion!

Book of Mormon in 100 Days
Sunday, August 26, 2012I love reading the Book of Mormon, I really do, however I often find myself caught up in the day to day business and sometimes I get out of the habit. Sometimes for days, and sadly, sometimes for weeks. Our Relief Society started a 100 day challenge back in January and I started it. I was doing great, but then fell behind a little, then a lot. On the days that I remembered, I would read 5-10 chapters to get myself caught up. I found myself racing through it and not really getting much out of it. I gave up part way through Alma.
A few weeks ago, while visiting teaching a good friend of mine, I felt prompted to encourage her to read the Book of Mormon. She expressed interest in reading it and wanted to do the 100 day challenge. She needs to be challenge and loves the idea of a set schedule. The next time I visited her, I brought her a 100 day challenge booklet so she could get started.
The next day she gave me a call and told me that she wanted to take me out to celebrate my (belated) birthday, how fun! Suddenly I had an idea. I said "I was wondering if you wanted to do the 100 day challenge with me, and when we're done, we can celebrate that." She was so excited about the idea that she suggested we start that very day.
I feel really good about starting the B.O.M again and knowing my friend is reading it too. I'm glad we are there to encourage each other. I pray and hope that I will be able to keep up, learn a lot, and have the spirit more in my home and in my life. I'm currently on 1 Nephi, chapter 10. So far, so good!
I know from experience that reading the scriptures lightens our loads, invites the spirit into our lives, and helps us understand our divine nature. I love the scriptures and know that they are true, that God lives, and loves us, and I know the church is true.

In the works...
Saturday, August 11, 2012Someone I know is having a baby, but it's a secret. What? No, not me! Any way, not sure if she'll be having a girl or a boy, but because I love her, I'm making 2 baby quilts! I love quilting so really, this is no biggie for me. Here's the girl quilt that I'm working on. This isn't the best picture, actually, it's a horrible picture. The quilt still needs to be pressed, trimmed, and add a boarder perhaps, but you get the idea of fabric and pattern. I promise this will look MUCH better when it's done. I'll be back with an update on this quilt soon.

Bedtime Songs
Sunday, August 5, 2012Tonight before bed Rosie asked me to sing her a bedtime song. She requested "the song from the Olympics". Obviously I thought she meant that We Believe song that plays constantly on CTV, so I started to sing that. Quickly she interrupted me and said "not that song! The one when the girl was getting her gold medal. You know, the one with the words 'Save the Queen' you know that song?" She wanted me to sing the British national anthem! Haa haa, that girl is such a princess.

I'm a Big Kid Now!
Sunday, July 8, 2012It's been WAY overdue, but better late than never. Joseph is finally using the potty! He's been ready for a while now, but I've been putting it off for one reason or another. Today he was watching a show in his pullups and had the hugest poop! All up his back and all over the chair he was sitting in. That's when I decided enough is enough! He's now in big boy underwear and he's gone a few times on the potty! We have him sit on the regular toilet so that I don't have to mess with a little one and so that we don't have to worry about transitioning him later. He sits there and concentrates really hard and "makes" himself go! It'll be perfect when he starts telling me when it's time instead of the other way around.
